Human Design Profiles: Discover Your Personality Archetype

If your Human Design Type is the role you were born to play, and your Inner Authority is your decision-making compass, then your Profile is your costume. It is the specific archetype, personality, and style you use to fulfill your life’s purpose.

When you generate your chart, your Profile looks like a fraction next to your Type (for example, 1/3, 5/1, or 6/2). These numbers are not random math; they represent two distinct “Lines” of energy that combine to create your unique way of learning, interacting with others, and experiencing the world.

The first number is your conscious personality—how you view yourself. The second number is your unconscious design—how others see you, and the traits your body naturally defaults to.

Before we look at the 12 combinations, you first need to understand the 6 core Lines that build them.

The 6 Lines of Human Design

Think of these six lines as the building blocks of human experience. Every profile is a combination of two of these lines.

• Line 1 (The Investigator): You need a solid foundation. You learn through deep research, asking questions, and getting to the bottom of things before you feel secure enough to act.

• Line 2 (The Hermit): You have a natural, unexplainable genius. You don’t always know how you do what you do. You need plenty of alone time in your “cave” until the right people recognize your talent and call you out to share it.

• Line 3 (The Martyr): You are the ultimate experiential learner. You learn by doing, making mistakes, and figuring out what doesn’t work. Your trial-and-error process brings massive wisdom to the world.

• Line 4 (The Opportunist): You are the ultimate networker. Your greatest opportunities, jobs, and relationships will always come from your immediate circle of friends and acquaintances.

• Line 5 (The Heretic): You are the visionary problem-solver. People naturally project their hopes and expectations onto you, believing you can fix their issues. You are here to deliver practical, unconventional solutions during times of crisis.

• Line 6 (The Role Model): Your life is divided into three distinct phases. The first 30 years are about trial and error (like a Line 3). From 30 to 50, you retreat to heal and observe. After 50, you step fully into your power as a wise, trusted Role Model for others.

You are here to build a secure foundation through deep research, and then immediately test that foundation through trial and error. You are the ultimate truth-seeker. You figure out what is broken in the world so you can build something better.

1/4: The Investigator / Opportunist

You are the trusted authority in your friend group. You love to dive deep into subjects that fascinate you, studying them until you are an expert. Once you have built that solid foundation of knowledge, you naturally share it with your established network of friends and colleagues.

2/4: The Hermit / Opportunist

You are a brilliant contradiction. You have a deep need to hide away in your own space to cultivate your natural talents, but you also possess a warm, friendly energy that draws people to you. Your success comes when your network literally “knocks on your door” and calls you out of your cave to share your gifts.

2/5: The Hermit / Heretic

You are the reluctant hero. You prefer to be left alone in your own world, but people constantly project a “savior” complex onto you, assuming you have the answers to their problems. You must be highly selective about which problems you choose to step in and fix.

3/5: The Martyr / Heretic

You are the rebellious innovator. You learn by bumping into life, making mistakes, and discovering what is flawed. Because you know exactly what doesn’t work, you are perfectly equipped to step in during a crisis and offer brilliant, unconventional solutions that shock the status quo.

5/1: The Heretic / Investigator

You are the general who actually does their homework. People naturally look to you to save the day and provide answers. Unlike other profiles, you have the Line 1 ability to research and study, ensuring that when you do step up to fix a problem, your solutions are backed by solid facts.

5/2: The Heretic / Hermit
